I went through and revamped the sports version of the timeline adding some other facts about the O's and Ravens but I though that it would be best to not put too much Orioles history in order to keep the focus on the Colts and besides that it would be entirely too long. So this is what is going to be posted up so take a look and if anything is out of order or if something needs to be changed or added just let me know and ill get on it.

The product production squad is in full swing with shirts and cups ordered and much more on the way. with the aid of the history group Gerard and I are going to piece together a timeline that will be posted on the walls of the dining room for all guests to enjoy. Erin will be helping with this as well. We have decided to split up the duties: Gerard with the community history, Erin will do the Club history, and myself doing the Baltimore sports history.

We are planning to do posters through Common Vision which Erin has been in touch with if I’m not mistaken. Here is a list of some of the more memorable dates in the Colts History and Baltimore sports:

September 27th, 1953- the Baltimore Colts earn their first win over the Chicago Bears with a 13-9 stunner.

1956 Season - Johnny Unitas steps in for the injured George Shaw, winning only 4 games leaving the Colts with a 5-7 record.

1957 - Johnny U leads the Baltimore Colts to their first winning season finishing up with a 7-5 season, falling one game short of a tie for the title.

1958 - the Colts make it to their first NFL Championship game to play the New York Giants. The Colts would pull of an amazing and first ever NFL overtime win on a Alan Ameche 1 yard run for a touchdown. Defensive end Gino Marchetti would receive League MVP during this campaign.

1959 - the Colts would repeat their appearance in the NFL Championship; this time around

handling the Giants of New York with a 31-16 finish.

1964 – Johnny Unitas won NFL’s League MVP with 2,824 passing yards despite losing the NFL Championship game to the Cleveland Browns.

1967 – Johnny receives his second NFL MVP award, this time with 3,428 yards in the air but the Colts do not get a bid to the Championship even though they held a record of 11-1-1.

1968 – The Baltimore Colts do make it to the Championship game the following year as they redeem their loss to the Browns on their way to Super Bowl III. Playing in Miami and heavily favored to win over the New York Jets, the Colts do not hold up to the odds and lose in what is known as the biggest upset in NFL history 16-7. The NY Jets were offensively manned by Joe Namath who promised a victory.

1970 – the Colts yet again make it to the big show, again in Miami where they square off with the Dallas Cowboys. Also known as the “Blunder Bowl” there were 11 turnovers between the two teams. The Colts would capitalize on a Dan Reeves (Former Atlanta Falcons coach) fumble and win off a Jim O’Brien 32 yard field goal with five seconds remaining in regulation.

1973 - Johnny Unitas’s career comes to a close after 18 years in the NFL, 10 Pro Bowl appearances, over 40,000 yards thrown, and 290 touchdown passes. He was 40 years of age when he retired and

was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979.

March 29th, 1984 - The Colts organization departs from Baltimore in the dead of night to move to Indianapolis.

September 6th, 1995 - Cal "Iron Man" Ripken played in his record 2,131 game. Cal then played in an additional 502 consecutive games. This was considered to be one of the most memorable moments in MLB history.

1995 - The Cleveland Browns organization announced that they were going to move the franchise to Baltimore.

February 2nd,1996 - The National Football League approved the move of the franchise.

March 29th, 1996 - The football organization officially dubbed the Ravens as their mascot and name after mass media poll revealed the raven was the majority winner.

April 20th 1996 - Jonathan Ogden was the first overall draft pick for the Ravens organization and would continue with Baltimore on his 12 year career and retiring June 6th 2008.

2001 - It took only five years for the organization to win their first Super Bowl victory. Ray Lewis was named defensive MVP and Baltimore's defense set a NFL record by allowing only 970 rushing yards the entire season. They also set a 16 game record by allowing only 165 total points. They would go on to beat the New York Giants by a score of 34-7.

Street Team

Today the street team made our first tour of the surrounding neighborhood of the 4100 Club. Overall it was a great success. We split into three groups and I was paired with Ilana and Erin as the other seven individuals were also split into two other groups.

Although we were unable to sell any tickets we did get a lot of interest toward our efforts. We did a bit of walking but forgot to take down the names of the streets that we walked but it was the neighborhood directly across from the club. We made attempts to talk to people who were in their yard and got some not so good responses especially pertaining to the new management. I didn’t actually think that this was really the reason why people held such animosity for the club but found that I was really mistaken after talking to a few community dwellers.

It was fairly easy, for myself, to approach the doors of these houses because I have had experience with this throughout my rec league days when we would have to raise money via selling raffle tickets at a dollar a piece for my football, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse recreation councils. I would travel around our neighborhoods with my brothers which made me more comfortable with this kind of introduction.

We did come across some who didn’t want anything to do with the entire conversation and one in particular who much rather watch the O’s game than hear what we had to say, but it’s understandable. Demographically the neighborhood was fairly diverse but the majority was middle to older Caucasian households. Most of which said they know about 4100 Club but don’t travel there often and one man said he had only been there once and said the food was decent but that he wouldn’t go out of his way to go again.

I would have been happier with having sold at least one or two tix but we did get a lot of enthusiasm from one man who said he would email Erin to get more details and he really wanted the discounted price for him and 5 others as well as 2 children. He also mentioned the accompaniment of a couple newborns which I didn’t know how to respond to so I just said “I’m sure we would be able to work something out” so maybe placing another admission allowance on the ticket of maybe kids under 2 are free or whatnot.

Thanks to Professor King for the beverages and apps she purchased us and being able to see this venue and neighborhood first hand is a big help in grasping the concept of the event and certainly brightens my perception of the event as a whole. I think the only loss we had on the day was Jerard's waisted dollar on the juke box and the fact that we didn't get to enjoy Signs by Ace of Base but other than that Good job everyone!

The deal with cups...

We can order the cups from a website: discountfavors.com. Honestly this sounds like the best deal. The screen fee is $39.00 and the shipping will be $14.99; added to the subtotal of $98.00 this brings the grand total to $151.99 which is a very reasonable price for the 200 16oz. guys we are getting. Other places do not offer this low of a price not to mention how easy they make cost projections for you.

For 250 cups it would be about ten dollars more which isn’t bad either so lets get the issue of whether or not we are going to include these into the price of the ticket, sell them at the door for a donation to the cause, or make drink specials with the purchase of these things. I think that these would sell and if we were to charge about $1.50 for them we would be making double profit on each cup ($.75 a piece to make, $.75 profit). Or even if we did 250 ($.64 to make with a sale price of $1.50 we would make a $.86 profit on each cup-total $215.00 in profit if all 250 are sold.

Just food for thought, it’s not much profit but we wouldn’t be losing either… sleep on it

Cups

So we have decided to go with cups instead of pens. I have looked at some prices and it seems that it will be substantially more expensive. The order of 100 will be approximately $.75 cents each bringing the total around 100 dollars with shipping and handling because the weight of the package will be 20 lbs. The site I found these prices from is called Vieco Balloons.com. Screen charges $30 per item per color. Let me know your thoughts on the issue and here is an example of what we can do for the cups.

Oriental Trading Company

This company is by far the cheapest to do pens however they no longer do customizations or logos. They do however do personalization which would just consist of a couple words and a date if desired. This also comes with a stipulation though, they only personalize selected items. I am not sure if the pens which we would want are a personalizable item but I will find out tomorrow by calling them and getting the just, straight from the horses mouth so to say. If this is possible, and we wouldn't mind whatever the maximum writing we could put on the pens, then we doubtlessly would want to go with this company.

So if The Oriental Trading company does not work out then one of the previous places which was found will have to be the direction in which to go.

Product Production: Pens

Product Production: action item for 3-24-09

Custom Pens- price quotes

Most places have a logo charge which is something that has to be made up and sent to the manufacture. Nick might have some insight on this logo but discussion on the wording should be finalized before submission.

Pens Xpress- http://www.pensxpress.com/

  • This company offers a wide array of pen types but one of the most feasible of which are their Xpress Pen TC PX 303TC. This is a plain cylindrical pen with cap and printed logo.

· The company is based out of New Jersey so the shipping process would conceivably not take long.

· Print area is ¾” x 2 ½” so the length of the wording can go up to 2 ½ inches.

· The color ink is either back or blue and have translucent barrels in green, pink, blue, yellow, purple, and orange.

· Logo charge of $20.00

· Ideally we would only need from 100-200 pens and that cost would be $.44 per pen for 100-249 pens in following the price drops to $.27 per pen for 250-499 pens

· For shipping purposes the weight would be 2 lbs. per 100 pens.

· The price for 200 pens would be $88.00 and the shipping for this package is estimated at $9.34 altogether it would be $117.34 which includes the logo charge. If we went with just with lettering there would be no logo charge.

The same company offers a style pen that is much like the one above but would be $10 cheaper for 200 but not as high quality. The PX 300

  • All same shipping costs
  • Same Logo fees
  • Same size imprint area
  • However this style has a wider variety of colors

Considering we would want the largest and most available room for the impring these would be the best to consider. Some of the other ones do not have as big an area to print our event statement or logo.

Other custom pens manufacturers either have higher prices or a much higher reserve as to the minimum of pens that must be ordered. However if we did order from a place called Marco Promotional Products we would be able to get 500 of their cheapest pens for $100 which includes set up fees however not shipping and handling.

PensRus is another option which has the 500 pen minimum but their prices are slightly lower at .$24 per pen and they also offer better and more in depth options to customization.

All of this can be discussed in class but i will need to know more on

A. if we even want to do this
B. how many pens we actually want
C. what would our budget be
D. our logo/ imprint to promote the event or the facilities or the neighborhood etc...

Product Production

Product Production

Not knowing exactly what Product Production is, I am going to have to say that we could go along with maybe the shirt idea which could have the initial date of this event in hopes of making it an annual occurrence. Some souvenirs would also be appropriate for the visitors to be able to take home and show their family and friends such as pencils, pens, party favors, posters, as well as other memorabilia.

In order to bring out the broader picture in what we are really trying to accomplish in this neighborhood, I think that something such as flyers with our mission statement is a must. In order to disclose this to the public, a premier figure in the community or a figure associated with Baltimore could aid in the efforts to gain more recognition for the cause.

I believe that having the signings and if there was to be the auction, that would be included in our group planning to an extent as well.
